Would you like to help your child achieve their goals and build a strong foundation for a bright future?
I'm Tess Fisher, founder of Tutoring Up-Grades.
This is the story of how Tutoring Up-Grades came to be. I believe everyone can learn. I hope that you find the help you are seeking, whether it's here or somewhere else.
I was frustrated in middle school and high school.
In elementary school I was told I was great at math. And then middle school hit. Math made no sense to me anymore. It was confusing, and what was with these letters? Math never had letters before algebra! But I really liked it when people thought I was good at math. So I kept trying. And trying. And trying. It was really hard. High school wasn't much better.
I kept comparing myself to what I thought was going on for the other students.
It looked like they just got it. The teacher would say something, and they would just “get it”. Or so I thought.
I didn't understand and I felt stupid.
It's a horrible feeling and it really doesn't have to be that way. It took me a lot of time and effort to learn different ways of understanding what the teachers were trying to teach.
I wasn't stupid. I just didn't understand the one way that my school teacher was teaching.
So, I learned a different way. When I started tutoring while I was in college, it made it much easier to explain things to other students. It takes flexibility to explain things again and again in different ways until the student understands. All Tutoring Up-Grades tutors are extremely patient, have many ways to explain concepts, and are skilled at helping students overcome test-anxiety and math phobias.
Tutoring Up-Grades now helps hundreds of students stop feeling stupid, boost their scores, and improve their confidence, so that they are happier in school and out.
